About Kingsley Bate:
Kingsley Bate holds a place in Frontera's curation as the American company that pioneered the use of Javanese teak, partnering with the Indonesian government in 1983 to establish a sustainable harvesting program still in use today. Each teak piece is joined using traditional mortise-and-tenon construction and finished by hand — a technique that reinforces the wood's natural strength without relying on hardware alone — while the collection also extends into stainless steel and all-weather wicker for a broader range of settings. What emerges is furniture built on classic, timeless forms — designed to develop a rich patina and remain part of the outdoor space for generations. It's a brand as at home on a private club veranda as it is on a backyard patio — furniture built to make everyday living feel like a getaway.

Care & Maintenance
New Teak Furniture: Teak is rich in natural oils, and some may surface during the first few rainfalls or humid days. Until the teak begins to weather, pull sling dining chairs out from under a teak table when they're not in use, since oil dripping onto the sling can stain it permanently.
Weathering: Left outdoors, teak weathers to a silver-gray patina, usually within nine to twelve months. Small surface cracks ("checking"), a slightly raised grain after the first rains, and water spots are normal. They're cosmetic and even out over time. To keep the golden-brown color, apply Kingsley Bate Teak Protector each season.
Cleaning Teak: Rinse with a garden hose (never high pressure, which can erode the wood). Scrub with a soft bristle brush and a solution of 2/3 cup laundry detergent (or 1/4 cup high-efficiency detergent) and 1/4 cup bleach in 1 gallon of warm water, then rinse thoroughly. For tougher stains, Kingsley Bate Teak Cleaner removes the patina and restores the golden-brown color. Don't oil teak or use oil-based sealers, which can lead to mildew.
Cleaning Slings: Clean slings about once a month. Rinse from the top down with a low-pressure hose. Then clean in a circular motion with a soft, non-metallic brush or sponge, using 1 tablespoon liquid dish detergent and 2 tablespoons bleach in 1 gallon of warm water. Rinse thoroughly and let air dry. Clean more often near the ocean or a pool to remove salt and chlorine. Keep suntan oils and lotions off the sling, and clean promptly if contact occurs.
Covers: Custom-fit protective covers are recommended when the furniture isn't in use for long periods. Make sure the furniture is clean and dry before covering it, and remove covers from time to time so the furniture can air out, especially after rain.
Winter Storage: Teak can stay outdoors year-round. Sling furniture shouldn't be exposed to snow or ice, so in freezing weather store it in a dry garage, shed or basement, or use a breathable cover. Clean and dry everything before storing. In spring, check the hardware and tighten any loose bolts by hand.
