Teak Wood Furniture - 5 years against structural failure of frame (residential) - 3 years against structural failure of frame (commercial) What Is Not Covered: This warranty does not cover damages from freight/shipping, incorrect assembly, unreasonable/abusive use, acts of God, improper care, freeze damage, mildew, normal wear, fading/stretching/pilling of fabrics, damage from chemicals (e.g., ammonia cleaners, suntan oils), glides, improper repairs, post-purchase modifications, or a failure to provide reasonable and necessary care and maintenance as outlined at www.kingsleybate.com. Teak wood is a natural material. As such, you may notice checking (small cracks), teak oil secretions, and a lifting of the grain as the wood weathers outdoors. These natural occurrences are not covered by warranty. Distressed teak furniture is prized for its unique character. Nicks, splits, cracks, knots, and other imperfections in the wood are an inherent part of the furniture design. Finishes are hand applied and some slight color variation is normal. When used outdoors, the finish on painted teak will gradually wear away or flake off, and as it does, the exposed natural teak underneath will gradually turn gray. A painted surface that becomes discolored due to natural teak oil surfacing can generally be touched up or will weather away naturally. By its nature, distressed teak wood planks may be somewhat uneven and may cup or bow over time due to changes in weather. These characteristics are not covered by warranty as we believe that they only enhance the furniture’s natural appeal.

Care & Maintenance

New Teak Furniture: Teak is rich in natural oils, and some may surface during the first few rainfalls or humid days. This is normal and stops once the teak begins to weather.

Weathering: Left outdoors, teak weathers to a silver-gray patina, usually within nine to twelve months. Small surface cracks ("checking"), a slightly raised grain after the first rains, and water spots are normal. They're cosmetic and even out over time. To keep the golden-brown color, apply Kingsley Bate Teak Protector each season.

Cleaning Teak: Rinse with a garden hose (never high pressure, which can erode the wood). Scrub with a soft bristle brush and a solution of 2/3 cup laundry detergent (or 1/4 cup high-efficiency detergent) and 1/4 cup bleach in 1 gallon of warm water, then rinse thoroughly. For tougher stains, Kingsley Bate Teak Cleaner removes the patina and restores the golden-brown color. Don't oil teak or use oil-based sealers, which can lead to mildew.

Covers: Custom-fit protective covers are recommended when the furniture isn't in use for long periods. Make sure the furniture is clean and dry before covering it, and remove covers from time to time so the furniture can air out, especially after rain.

Winter Storage: Teak can stay outdoors year-round. If you prefer to store it, use a dry, unheated garage or shed, or a breathable cover. Clean and dry it before storing. In spring, check the hardware and tighten any loose bolts by hand.
