Care & Maintenance
Cleaning Wicker: To clean your woven furniture, rinse the frame with fresh water using a high hose pressure. Optionally, you may wash the woven material with mild detergent and warm water using a soft brush. After washing, rinse with fresh water until there are no soap bubbles remaining. Allow the furniture to air-dry. If using a specialty outdoor furniture cleaner, avoid using a foaming product, as foam cleaners can leave residue in the gaps of the weaving and later attract dirt.
Cleaning Slings: Clean slings about once a month. Rinse from the top down with a low-pressure hose. Then clean in a circular motion with a soft, non-metallic brush or sponge, using 1 tablespoon liquid dish detergent and 2 tablespoons bleach in 1 gallon of warm water. Rinse thoroughly and let air dry. Clean more often near the ocean or a pool to remove salt and chlorine. Keep suntan oils and lotions off the sling, and clean promptly if contact occurs.
Covers: Custom-fit protective covers are recommended when the furniture isn't in use for long periods. Make sure the furniture is clean and dry before covering it, and remove covers from time to time so the furniture can air out, especially after rain.
Winter Storage: Kingsley Bate recommends that woven furniture be stored for the winter in climates exposed to snow and freezing temperatures. Store it upright to allow for proper water drainage, since storing it upside-down may let water collect and freeze inside the frame, causing structural damage. Clean the furniture thoroughly before storing it in a dry garage, garden shed or basement. You may also store woven furniture outdoors under breathable furniture covers.
